Bruce Liu, the winner of the Chopin Piano Competition, is not only a talented musician, but has a flair for racing, too. That opinion is confirmed by Kacper Nadolski, one of the most talented karting drivers in Poland, who had the opportunity to challenge him at the E1Gokart racing track near Poznań.
– Meeting the winner of this year’s Chopin Competition was an enormous pleasure and honour – says Kacper Nadolski, a driver for the Polish national team. – Bruce liked it a lot, too. Even though the last time he drove a cart was before the outbreak of the pandemic, he really showed high driving skills. He definitely has a flair for karting!
The friendly face-off between Kacper Nadolski and Bruce Liu took place at the E1Gokart racing track near Poznań in three sessions, eight minutes each. That was the last item on the Chopin Competition winner’s busy schedule in Poland. He now sets off on a world tour.
How did it come about that Bruce Liu, the winner of this year’s Chopin Piano Competition and Kacper Nadolski of Poznań, driver for the Polish national team, representing Poland in the international competition in prestigious KZ2 karting category, and a member of the famous Italian Tony Kart Racing Team, met on the racing track? It turned out that the piano virtuoso is a fan of karting and does some amateur racing. Wojciech Nentwig, the director of the Poznań Philharmonic, said he would arrange for a karting ride for the winner in Poznań, where the 24-year-old Canadian played his last concert in Poland on 30 October. Then, one of the most talented Polish karting drivers jumped into action. He contacted the Poznań Philharmonic and suggested he would join Bruce Liu on the track. The proposal of the 18-year-old Poznaner was accepted.
Kacper Nadolski and Bruce Liu met on Saturday, on the day of the pianist’s concert in Poznań, At the meeting, the driver presented the maestro with two gifts.
– I wanted the winner of the Chopin Competition to remember Poland and Poznań dearly – Nadolski explains. – So I gave him a pair of racing gloves and a T-shirt of my racing team – I am keeping my fingers crossed for his future musical career and, of course, his karting passion.
